Women's Student Care Graduate Assistant

Position Summary: Provide support, encouragement, and Biblical counsel to students facing personal challenges and difficult situations, maintain knowledge of current counseling trends and issues and provide counseling resources, group studies, etc, for both students and faculty/staff.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Meet the spiritual needs of students, by providing biblical counseling on a one-time and on-going basis
  • Provide administrative support to the Director and Women’s Counselor as is most helpful for the Student Care Office and its mission
  • Build rapport and provide support to students, discipleship groups, and group leaders
  • Lead bible or book studies with groups of students
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality
  • Provide crisis intervention and emotional support
  • Maintain a high priority for approachability and availability to students
  • Assist and partner with resident mentors and the Student Development department as specific needs arise
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant legal matters
  • Communicates the religious beliefs of BJU to students and student affiliates

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough understanding of and support of BJU’s mission
  • Individual who lives an example of an obedient and joyful walk with God
  • Proven ability to make wise decisions in difficult situations
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle stressful situations with sound judgment calls
  • Demonstrated ability to give Biblical counsel
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and compassionately
  • Ability to relate well interpersonally and develop rapport with students
  • Demonstrated ability to be both approachable and available to students
  • Proven conflict resolution skills
  • Solid understanding of college environment and regulations (e.g., Title IX, Mandatory Reporting, etc.)
  • Continuing professional development in the field of counseling

Required Education: Bachelor's degree
