Position Summary:  The pressman is a goal-oriented individual that is self-motivated, energetic, diciplined, responsible, and has a professional demeanor.  He assists the lead pressman in day to day operations of the press.  Additionally a pressman assists the lead pressman in all mechanical functions, as well as paper and print chemistry balance to ensure the highest quality of product and production efficiency in order to meet customer expectations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist lead pressman in all press operations and maintenance as directed.
  • Troubleshoot problems pertaining to press, raw materials, plates, ink and job information.
  • Assist in all mechanical and roller maintenance and cleanliness of the press and immediate area.
  • Monitor ink, water, and paper quality throughout each run and remove defective product as needed.
  • Maintain registration accuracy and fold accuracy.
  • Record all DHEC and ASI readings daily.
  • Check and maintain fountain solution daily.
  • Stand in for lead pressman when he is out.
  • Prepare press for next shift at the close of each day.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, mechanical, and trouble-shooting skill sets.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical hand tools.
  • Good understanding of printing press functions and limitations.
  • Understanding of color hue, print chemistry, and the ability to maintain color balance.
  • Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic math and intermediate level computer skills.
  • Ability grow and improve skill sets for advancement into the Lead Pressmen position.
  • Demonstrated reliability through attendance, punctuality, and ability to maintain focus.
  • Ability to work under the leadership of the Lead Pressmen and function independently as needed.
  • Ability to work shifts regularly and overtime as needed.
  • Four to five years of consistent employment may be substituted in lieu of related experience
