University Switchboard Receptionist

Position Summary: Do you have a friendly, personable speaking voice and love helping others?  As a university switchboard receptionist, you may be the first person a caller speaks with, so you have a great opportunity of providing callers with a productive experience.  The University Switchboard Receptionist is responsible to joyfully and professionally assure all callers that call the University’s main incoming phone lines get to the department or person they need.  You will also assist with documentation and other administrative duties.


  • Respond to all mainline telephone requests for assistance
  • Handle all callers in a friendly, professional and courteous manner
  • Apply standards of excellence in all interactions with the University constituency
  • Perform various office tasks such as responding to emails and updating documentation
  • Assist in training of new operators
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Must have an availability window between 7:30am – 5:30pm


  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent speaking voice
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to respond well with a calm, efficient, kind attitude that will encourage confidence in BJU
  • Ability to remain calm in difficult situations
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to anticipate needs and propose effective solutions
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technology

Required Education: High School Graduate or GED
Required Experience: One to two years related experience
