BJU Press Text Permissions Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:  If you are good with details and enjoy digging for information and locating sources, you may be just the right person for our Permissions team. As a text permissions specialist, you will contact publishing houses and authors, secure copyright licenses, hunt down elusive text vendors, and create accurate charts and contracts. Your goal is to help obtain literature for textbooks while maintaining copyright compliance. You will be working with writers and editors and our growing team of permissions specialists to help BJU Press do everything we can so Christian education can do everything it must.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive text permission requests from Permissions Manager for current projects and reprint projects
  • Research all requests for current and reprint projects
  • Contact outside vendors and acquire permission and contracts to use the text
  • Obtain checks and pay outside companies if there is a cost
  • Keep track of ongoing contract issues, such as dates for contract renewals on permissions excel charts
  • Document and file all correspondence and information for each project
  • Acquire permissions for distance learning on-line, e-books, and look-in-the-book websites
  • Be aware of copyright/trademark laws
  • At times may need to help train GA to assist with text permissions

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Some knowledge of copyright/trademark law is preferred
  • Organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to remember data and procedures
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
  • Experience in filing, letter writing and paying bills
  • Experience in internet searching
