Proofreading and Permissions Specialist

Position Summary: The Proofreading and Permissions Specialist is responsible for proofreading materials created for the visual display of educational content both in print and digital formats and assisting in the acquiring of permissions for music, photos, and text.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carefully proofread materials created for the visual display of educational content within distance-learning courses.
  • Will perform all checks in conjunction with teachers, teacher assistants, and the instructional design team.
  • Maintain excellent communication with project team members through individual interaction and in meetings.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by management.
  • Stays knowledgeable of current copyright laws as applies to media/text/photo use in the digital classroom.
  • Advises Press Digital personnel on acceptable/unacceptable uses of copyrighted
  • Coordinates with outside companies to secure permissions to use copyrighted material.
  • Reviews and edits all lesson credits prior to video recording.
  • Organizes and tracks all permissions requests and payments.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Mastery of English grammar and mechanics, including the ability to recognize and repair problems with sentence structure and to identify and correct problems with unity, coherence, logic, and precision. (Candidates may be asked to complete a proofreading skills test during the interview process.)
  • Proficiency in applying the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Ability to follow established procedures and also to engage in process improvement
  • Ability to work with a team with the purpose of finding the most practical solution
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong research skills
  • Hybrid Option: After successful onboarding, an employee in this position may apply for a hybrid work schedule.

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience: One to two years related experience preferred
