Position Summary: As a BJU Press page-layout specialist, you have a part in creating textbooks and other K-12 educational products as you place text and images into Adobe InDesign templates. The materials are all prepared for you—it’s your job to bring them together on the page. You work with an editor and other team members to proof and fine-tune the pages. When your project is finished, you send the files to the BJU Press Printing Division and then look forward to holding the printed book in your hands or seeing your work in the form of a digital textbook.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and modify Word templates for authors and editors
- Assist authors and editors in using templates
- Create and modify Adobe InDesign production templates
- Convert Word documents into desktop publishing format
- Build textbook pages in InDesign
- Manipulate text, place art and photos
- Create tables, charts, and graphs
- Typeset
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Good command of the English language
- Detail oriented with an eye for user-friendly design in educational materials
- Able to work well independently and with others
- Able to both follow instructions and take appropriate initiative
- Analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Able to maintain focus while sitting at a computer most of the day
- Familiar with the Apple OSX operating system
- Experience with, or ability to learn, publishing software such as Adobe InDesign and InCopy
- Knowledge of digital formats such as HTML and ePub is a plus
- Associate's degree in related field OR one to two years related experience
- This is an on-site position.
