Procurement Agent

POSITION SUMMARY: Ensure smooth operation of the automated purchasing process to support the Purchasing objectives.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process items coming through the current Purchasing software in the form of requisitions and purchase orders and placing orders with appropate vendors
  • Communicate with others in the Purchasing office regarding as to who will be placing what orders
  • Provide support to requestors and end-users in fulfilling their needs
  • Communicate with vendors and regularly requesting up-to-date pricing via quotes and bids
  • Receive sales calls as time allows to keep informed of new products that may benefit the University
  • Maintain product catalog in current Purchasing software
  • Help tracking of costs in projects and work orders in correctly coding items with correct GL number

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of current developments in related fields of specialization in the Purchasing function
  • Good communication skills, both orally and written
  • Skill to assist current Purchasing software developers in identifying and implementing improvements to the software
  • Detail-oriented and accurate
  • Ability to provide feedback, support and encouragement to end users
  • Ability to withstand considerable pressure attached to the job and follow a task through implementation
  • Ability to meet deadlines for reports and other required paper work
  • Understanding of business procedures
  • Professional in appearance and presentation

Required Education: Associate's Degree
Required Experience: Experience working in a business office or purchasing department
