Pressroom Assistant

Position Summary: Assist press operator in the set-up, maintenance, and operation of a printing press.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist lead pressman in all press operations and maintenance as directed.
  • Troubleshoot problems pertaining to press feeder & raw materials.
  • Assist in all mechanical maintenance and cleanliness of the press and immediate area.
  • Monitor ink, water, paper quality throughout each run and remove defective product as needed.
  • Coordinate receipt of and stage raw materials and paper stock.
  • Set up feeder and delivery; assist pressmen in press cleaning and keeping feeder running.
  • Read the ticket for stock being used for each job.
  • Maintain waste boxes and coordinate the removal of full boxes with coworkers.
  • Prepare press for next shift at the close of each day.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions.
  • Working knowledge of printing press functions and limitations.
  • Ability to apply written and verbal instructions to machine setup.
  • Mechanical aptitude; and troubleshooting ability.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical hand tools.
  • Ability to work shifts regularly and overtime as needed.
  • Basic math and computer skills and understanding of color hue.
  • Demonstrated reliability through attendance, punctuality, and ability to stay on task
  • Ability to work under the leadership of the Lead Pressman and function independently as needed.
  • Ability to work shifts regularly and overtime as needed.

OTHER PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work with accuracy and manuuver in tight spaces.
  • Must not be color blind.

Required Education: High School diploma or GED
