Permissions Specialist

Position Summary: If you are good with details and enjoy digging for information and locating sources, you may be just the right person for our Permissions team. As a Permissions Specialist, you will receive requests for texts and/or photos. The goal is to research,  document, and secure permissions for use in BJU Press materials while maintaining copyright compliance. You will be working with multiple departments and our team of Permissions Specialists to help BJU Press do everything we can so Christian education can do everything it must.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research permission requests for text and/or photo selections for current and reprint projects
  • Acquire permissions for print and electronic use
  • Contact outside vendors and acquire permission
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions
  • Work within a budget and communicate budget limitations with the team
  • Obtain checks and pay outside companies
  • Obtain permissions in a timely manner
  • Keep track of ongoing contracts for renewals
  • Document and file all correspondence and information for each project
  • Be aware of copyright/trademark laws
  • Conduct fair use analysis
  • Assist with other tasks as needed

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to remember data and procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in internet searching
  • Problem solving skills
  • Experience in filing, letter writing and paying bills
  • Some knowledge of copyright/trademark law is preferred
  • Associate or higher degree with 1-2 years related experience or high school graduate with five or more years related experience
