Position Summary: The Lead Instructional Designer oversees the efforts of a team of instructional designers to develop the academic master design for each distance-learning video course.  The Lead Designer oversees research into current video instruction standards and the design and course teams’ application of those standards specifically for Press Digital.


  • Ensure that instructional design standards are identified, implemented, and managed across all areas of course design in Press Digital to allow for the sound design, development, and presentation of digital content.
  • Develop a general system of accountability for all content creators to ensure that instructional design principles are being used effectively.
  • Communicate relevant information regarding instructional design plans to the Education Senior Manager and the Director, Digital Production & Distribution, and then collaborate with these individuals to develop an overall strategy for Press Digital content development.
  • Develop and relay recommendations for future courses and projects to other managers particularly as it relates to the creation of content.
  • Must be able to manage course pre-planning agenda and people involved in the process to bring courses to start and completion within a pre-determined schedule.


  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in educational field.
  • A master’s degree in education-related field is preferred
  • A bachelors’ degree in instructional design/curriculum design may substitute for a master’s degree or 3 years’ experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the field of education (Teaching, Curriculum Design, Administrative).


  • Knowledge of educational philosophy, general pedagogical and instructional design principles particularly as they apply to distance learning and digital content for education
  • Knowledge of and experience with digital resources within an academic/educational setting
  • Knowledge of instructional design standards and procedures
  • Core technical aptitude (understands, uses and is comfortable with technology generally)
  • Use of or at least strong familiarization with BJU Press materials
  • Planning, communication, and leadership skills necessary
  • Experience teaching BJU Press curriculum in a classroom or homeschool.
  • Ability to explain new content clearly, logically, and concisely.
  • Ability to integrate biblical worldview shaping into subject matter
  • Ability to model and teach critical thinking
