Position Summary: Responsible for the University’s regulatory footprint with respect to SC-DHEC, US-EPA , and US-OSHA.  Responsible for monitoring campus regulated areas and for filing appropriate paperwork with these agencies.


  • Interfaces with environmental regulatory agencies (Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), South Carolina Dept. of Health & Environmental Control (SC DHEC), Renewable Water Resources (ReWa)
  • Prepares and submits reports to EPA / DHEC as scheduled by permit (SCDHEC permitted facility)
  • Prepares environmental vendor Requests for Proposals (RFPs) as needed to support major departmental initiatives or capital projects
  • Applies knowledge of OSHA requirements to review current processes and to support faculty and staff as needed
  • Applies knowledge of acceptable work-safety practices to safeguard employees, and vendors working on campus
  • Provides guidance regarding departmental waste, chemical handling and regulated waste disposal practices
  • Provides guidance to areas generating regulated emissions to ensure compliance with the EPA Clean Air Act and state and local regulations and permits
  • Assists in the identification and control of occupational (employee) hazards
  • SDS/GHS chemical identification and communication system.
  • Responsible for hazardous waste storage areas, hazardous waste shipping and invoicing
  • Participates with university third party engineering resources to track regulatory compliance (five year cycle) and to continually improve safety and environmental practices on campus


  • Ability to work with varied work groups to achieve compliance with environmental regulations
  • Ability to work with varied work groups to achieve an appropriate employee safety standard
  • Ability to do independent work and daily work planning to achieve positive outcomes
  • Through regular continuing education events, whether internet based, local or regional, maintains a working knowledge of regulatory requirements

Required Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience: Five or more related years experience
