Alumni Relations Communications Specialist

Position Summary: Works with the Director of Alumni Relations and Parent Engagement to strategize Alumni communications. Responsible for execution and project management of communications to alumni. Expected to coordinate communications with other departments as they reach out to alumni.


General Communications Responsibilities

  • Coordinates mailings and communications with Advancement office and other internal departments
  • Coordinates communications regarding events and programs with Operations Manager
  • Oversees Alumni Graduate Assistant (GA) regarding communication tasks such as mailings and social media posts

Content Development

  • Updates and manages all scripts and templates on file
  • Strategizes all promotions in coordination with director
  • Executes all promotions
  • Coordinates with Events Specialist regarding communication plan for events
  • Manages Website, under guidance from director
    • Content creation
    • Update daily or as needed
    • Coordinate with Marketing for overall management
  • Manages Social Media 
    • Create social media strategy and communication plan in coordination with director
    • Execute social media plan
    • Oversee Alumni GA as a social media assistant
  • Serves as the editor of the Voice of the Alumni newsletter
  • Coordinates routine communications management

AlumNation Coordination

  • Executes processes and communications for AlumNation as needed, under the guidance of the director
  • Uses data to make recommendations for improved internal communications and external promotions, in coordination with the Alumni Relations Manager
  • Reports to director monthly or as needed

General Office Duties

  • Assists in all Alumni Relations events and programs as needed: set up/tear down, hosting, etc.


  • Proven track record of communication success
  • Basic understanding of marketing and consumer analysis
  • Strong ability in Microsoft Office software
  • Strong verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent people skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities effectively in a Christian environment
  • An understanding of the nonprofit and educational sectors
  • Energetic, team-oriented, enthusiastic, and positive demeanor in a demanding environment
  • Ability to travel for alumni events
  • Strong partnership-building skills


Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred
Required Experience: 2 or more years of communications experience preferred
