POSITION SUMMARY: JourneyForth is the trade imprint of BJU Press that publishes youth fiction and biographies for beginning readers through teens as well as Bible studies and Christian living books for teens and adults. Where BJU Press primarily produces textbooks and educational materials for schools and homeschools, JourneyForth focuses on books that serve independent reading needs (aka “leisure reading”) that serve schools but reach beyond to readers in the home and the church. We seek to provide a variety of genres, reading levels, and unique author voices. Woven into the fabric of each JourneyForth book is a biblical worldview that manifests itself in ways like honorable actions that mirror God’s image, dishonorable actions that show the sin nature, consequences or what Scripture calls sowing and reaping, and more.

The Editorial Assistant works alongside the Aquistions Editor, engaging in the range of activities that comprise JourneyForth's business. The Assistant Editor reads and evaluates manuscripts, develops professional industry relationships, supports JourneyForth's social media presence, and plans and executes promotional events. The Assistant also handles department correspondence and clerical functions.


  • In conjunction with the BJU Press Marketing Department, maintain an active social media presence for JourneyForth: identify social media channels; write posts; propose online promotional campaigns; respond to questions and comments from JourneyForth's social media community; locate and facilitate third-party channels for JourneyForth book reviews
  • Log manuscripts, acknowledge receipt, and forward to acquisitions editor; monitor JF email; proofread
  • Register all JF titles for Library of Congress cataloging-in-publication
  • Perform office management and product support functions for JourneyForth: ordering supplies, processing payments, copying and printing, and so forth
  • Assist the JourneyForth Acquisitions Editor as requested
  • Travel to writers' conferences as requested
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Editorial Services Senior Manager


  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Clerical/computer skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to use social media platforms (current and future) effectively for promotional purposes
  • Proofreading aptitude, demonstrated by acceptable performance on the BJU Press editorial test
  • Knowledge of trade book publishing process and terminology helpful
  • Office management experience helpful
  • This is an on-site position.
