Position Summary: Plan and provide instruction and innovative games and challenges that promote physical activity among all students from grades K3-K5 with the goal of developing motor skills, physical development, proper exercise, and healthy eating habits among all students.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide large group, small group, and individual instruction in the field of physical education
- Create appealing and age-appropriate lessons that implement a variety of methodologies, skills, and resources based on appropriate benchmark standards
- Provide engaging, fun, and effective instruction that helps build a health and wellness foundation for young children.
- Communicate with parents and school personnel regarding student progress
- Ensure a physical education environment that is clean, safe and constructive for students
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and related arts teachers in the planning of procedures, activities, programs, and instruction for the class and grade levels
- Fulfill various supervisory duties with large and small groups of students throughout the day
- Monitor student progress in the areas of behavior, social skills, growth and development and remediate as needed
- Communicate with classroom teachers and parents through meetings, conferences, notes, and other means as appropriate
- Establish and maintain acceptable standards for behavior and demonstrate strong classroom systems and management skills to provide an orderly, productive environment
- Maintain professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities
- Maintain control of storage and PE equipment
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator
- Drive bus transportation for students to on and off-campus events (optional, but preferred)
- Communicate the religious beliefs of BJU to students and student affiliates
- Answer questions concerning faith, doctrine and creed of BJU to constituents, students, or those inquiring about BJU
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Well-trained in physical education content knowledge, early learners, and effective and engaging teaching strategies
- Motivation and enthusiasm with a genuine passion for teaching young learners
- Ability to establish and maintain good rapport and working relationships with administration, colleagues, students, and parents
- Excellent listening, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to teach and demonstrate activities
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (grades K4-2) or Elementary Education (grades 1-6)
- Master’s degree preferred.
