Producer Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:  Assist in the planning and producing of special segments that achieve the teaching objectives for BJU Press distance learning content. The Producer Specialist is assigned to a primary production team for each course.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The producer specialist ensures all design aspects of video segment production come together to make a unified and meaningful whole that accomplishes the teachers’ educational goals by given deadlines
  • Each producer specialist is assigned to a course team to brainstorm creative segment approaches to educational content and, upon approval, ensures the actualization of the courses’ scripts. He/She:
  • Works collaboratively with the writers, video specialists, teachers, teachers’ assistants (and other artists)
  • Designs openers and master slides (using PPT and Adobe design programs) with Teacher/VS/GDS/Writer input
  • Secures and records accurate image and prop permissions/acknowledgments (thru Permissions dept.) for every segment
  • Coordinates with other designers (video specialists, set and prop artists, makeup artist, sound artist/composer)
  • Meets needs, designs, vision, and deadlines for course segments
  • Communicates with actors as primary liaison, sets up recording times, keeps accurate records (project management charts, release forms, etc.)

REQUIRED KNOWLEDDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of dramatic terms and principles
  • Ability to learn new computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to work well with others in a creative environment
  • Self-motivated in developing creative ideas and meeting deadlines
  • Basic understanding of BJU Press educational philosophy
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Microsoft Access
  • Microsoft Excel 
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Microsoft Word
  • Bachelor's degree or master's in a speech communication program, preferably theater or cinema
  • Should be proficient in drama; background in education is beneficial, but not necessary
  • Extensive experience with acting and directing

Required Education: Bachelor's degree
Required Experience: One to two years related experience
