POSITION SUMMARY:  The proofreader assists the math editors by checking and reading Word documents or page proofs of BJU Press math products. The proofreader increases the value of the products through catching errors and inconsistencies, ensuring the product’s conformity to BJU Press style, lowering production costs through working efficiently and attentively, and using standard departmental procedures and guidelines.


  • Proofreading and checking BJU Press math products
  • Assisting editors with specific editorial tasks as requested
  • Studying to improve proofreading and math skills
  • Complete special projects as assigned


  • Must be enrolled as a student at Bob Jones University or Academy
  • Acceptable performance on the BJU Press editorial test and math test
  • Working knowledge of English grammar and mechanics
  • College mathematics coursework
  • Able to follow directions well
  • Willingness to study to become familiar with the Chicago Manual of Style and BJU Press publishing guidelines
  • Attention to detail; good communication skills
  • Computer aptitude; competency in Microsoft Word
