M&G Security and Plant Operations Manager

Position Summary: The Security and Plant Operations Manager supports and strengthens the testimony and outreach of the Museum & Gallery by creating and preserving an environment where collections, employees, and visitors are safe and well-protected and enabling M&G’s staff to provide meaningful, transformative outreaches that touch the whole person—mind, heart, and soul.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the safety and security of the museum building, storage areas, grounds, artworks, staff and visitors.
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the museum’s mechanical and electrical equipment including security systems, intrusion alarms, fire alarm, lighting, HVAC, and ID access control.
  • Supervises the maintenance of M&G’s facilities including pest control and cleaning. Conducts liaison work with campus departments, companies, and contractors and supervises custodians and workmen.
  • Responsible for managing confidential and sensitive information regarding a broad range of security-related information topics, including detailed incident reports, activity logs, and investigation documentation.
  • Assists in all aspects of art handling: preparation, packing, transporting, installation/deinstallation, and storage of objects and works of art. Transports, loads, and unloads trucks with crates of artwork and other items.
  • Collaborates with event staff to sustain M&G’s varied, active cultural offerings, including M&G special events involving delivery, setup, and breakdown of special event items.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Effective problem solving, emergency response, time management, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • A working knowledge of MS Office products including Outlook, Word, and Access database administration.
  • Knowledge of security systems and safety requirements for protecting museum collections
  • Ability to read blueprints, other drawings and diagrams and to use planning models
  • Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time.
  • This position will require operation of mechanical lifts and work from ladders and scaffolds. It will also require periods of standing, cleaning, bending, stooping, lifting and moving objects to perform certain duties.
  • Applicant must be able to lift/carry/move 40 lbs. and more
  • Work may be subject to a rotational basis including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Bachelor’s degree in physical plant management, business administration, public administration, or criminal justice.
  • Experience in building management, project management, and/or supervising staff and contractual maintenance personnel.
  • Familiarity with security technologies
  • Experience in a museum or cultural or educational institution is desirable.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:

  • Certified First Aid & CPR Instructor, willing to acquire certifications for cultural property protection

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience: Three to four years related experience
