M&G Museum on the Move Educator

POSITION SUMMARY: Referencing M&G’s collection covering 45 centuries of mankind’s culture, the Museum Educator integrates art into the core subjects for K-12 students through in-classroom teaching (in public and private schools). The MOM Educator develops and presents multi-disciplinary content that engages and inspires students to understand history and culture in light of the arts and to value the arts, thereby enriching their analytical skills, communication, and creative problem solving. Working with M&G’s Director of Education, the MOM Educator is a key part of extending M&G into communities at home and abroad through meaningful, transformative outreaches that touch the whole person—mind, heart, and soul.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and implements innovative, multi-disciplinary arts-integrated lessons in service to students, educators, and families through Museum on the Move.
  • Engages K-12 audiences in diverse settings using creative and engaging teaching strategies to inspire and guide learners to make meaningful links between life and the core subjects.
  • When relevant, supervises interns, student works, and volunteers in preparing materials for arts-integrated lessons.
  • Keeps abreast of current trends in museum education, classroom teaching methods, technology, and visual literacy.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to write interpretive and promotional museum education materials (handouts, social posts, brochures, teachers’ guides, etc.)
  • Ability to plan and manage program budget
  • Knowledge of world and biblical history and ability to do academic research on history, art, artists, culture, etc.
  • Knowledge of national and South Carolina state educational standards and/or visual art standards
  • Ability to understand different learning styles and level of ability for different ages and populations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and proficiency with digital technology, new and emerging media
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, to begin projects independently, or as assigned, and to bring projects, or assignments to a conclusion on a timely basis

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word

 

Required Education: Bachelors degree or higher preferred
Required Experience: 3-4 years: related experience
