Position summary: The lead pressman is a goal-oriented individual that is self-motivated, detail-oriented, responsible, and has a professional demeanor. This individual is energetic, disciplined, with a strong work ethic and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. The lead pressman directs the day to day operations of the production line and its crew. Additionally a lead pressman oversees all mechanical functions and ensures the product is of exceptional quality and achieves the highest production efficiency possible. Must be able to work 2nd & 3rd shifts (1PM-9PM, 8:30PM-6:30AM).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate state-of-the-art digital web press, folder, collator, and binding production line.
- Lead the press crew in setup, size changes, make ready, and run operations.
- Constantly monitor print alignment and fold accuracy, and maintain excellent print and binding quality, removing defective product as needed.
- Prepare for upcoming jobs while running current jobs and lead crew in doing the same.
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems pertaining to production line equipment, raw materials, and job information.
- Ensure auxiliary crew members are efficient and accurate in the execution of their responsibilities.
- Direct and lead in all maintenance and cleanliness of the line and immediate area.
- Record all activities, troubleshooting, and maintenance in shop data collection and other programs.
- Lead the regular maintenance and upkeep of the waste baler and bag house and see that all data is properly recorded.
- Prepare press for and communicate with next shift at the close of each day.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of HP Page Wide T485, Muller Martini Sigma 3, and Alegro functions and limitations.
- Good understanding of color hue and the ability to maintain print quality.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Strong analytical, mechanical, and troubleshooting skill sets.
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to use mechanical hand tools.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work shifts regularly and overtime as needed.
- Basic math and computer skills.
OTHER PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work with accuracy and maneuver in tight spaces
- Must not be color blind
