University Journalism Writing Faculty

Position Summary: Do you want to be part of a team that prepares students to be the next generation of Christian journalists and writers? The department of Journalism and Mass Communication is seeking a candidate who will provide instruction from a biblical worldview for writing and journalism courses. The ideal candidate has professional and academic qualifications that will help them excel in the classroom.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in a variety of areas such as media writing, news writing, multimedia storytelling, online journalism, opinion writing, and writing for public relations.
  • Oversee the student newspaper and its staff
  • Assist with the department’s social media accounts
  • Mentor and advise students academically and spiritually

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills in the classroom and interpersonally with students
  • Demonstrate organizational abilities in teaching and classroom management
  • Possess and communicate a Biblical worldview and integrate biblical principles into subject matter
  • Exemplify a biblical role model for students and colleagues
  • Committed to staying current in fields relevant to various classes taught
  • Committed to personal and professional development
  • Participate in appropriate professional organizations, and departmental or university duties
  • Master's degree in teaching field preferred (Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field of study by the date of the appointment)
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • A terminal degree would be a plus 

Required Education: Master’s degree (PhD preferred)
Required Experience: One to two years related experience
