University Graphic Design Faculty

BJU School of Fine Arts and Communication Division of Art + Design is seeking an individual for a full-time, 9-month faculty teaching position in Graphic Design. Successful candidates will have the ability to teach a variety of graphic design courses. Faculty will provide student instruction from a Christian worldview for various undergraduate Graphic Design courses; will advise students concerning academic matters; and will perform service duties as needed within the department, division, or school.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop and teach assigned undergraduate graphic design courses including class preparation, grading, and other teaching activities
  • Maintain course syllabi and post it for each class
  • Recruit, advise, and mentor undergraduate students
  • Maintain thorough and current faculty portfolio
  • Collaborate with other faculty for program improvement
  • Participate in divisional/department meetings and activities including curriculum development, serving on committees, and advising core-curricular organizations
  • Engage in professional practice and professional development activities
  • Participate in University service activities

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Evidence of ability to teach graphic design courses
  • Relevant professional experience in graphic design
  • Demonstrated commitment to biblical worldview through teaching, curriculum development, and/or service
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in the classroom and interpersonally with students and peers
  • Demonstrate organizational abilities in teaching and classroom management
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Creative Cloud applications
  • Effective teaching and assessment skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Experience teaching in higher education preferred
  • Maintain regular, posted office hours to be available to students
  • Commitment to personal professional development
  • Participate in appropriate professional organizations
  • Continuously monitor research and trends to make recommendations concerning program and course updates
  • Participate in continuous assessment of program-level and student learning outcomes
  • Support activities related to the Division of Art + Design and the department
  • Other job-related duties as assigned by department head or division chair

Required Education: Master's Degree
Required Experience: Five or more years related experience
