General Maintenance Technician

Postion Summary: Partner with our facilities team to perform general building maintenance and repair work.


  • Ability to follow and complete instructions
  • Ability to apply common sense when working on solutions
  • Trouble-shoot and correct building or system failures
  • Discernment to contact supervisor concerning transfer of work demanding time or skill beyond the scope of this department
  • Pager duty required and some overtime as schedule demands
  • Occasionally serve as backup for the supervisor in his absence


  • Basic skills in painting, carpentry, plumbing, electricty, lighting, floor repair, mechanical, etc.
  • Mechanical skills in variety of areas; willingness to learn other disciplines
  • Expertise in one area is helpful, but not required
  • Courteous communication skills (both oral and written) with the clients, public and  fellow worker
  • Basic computer skills—proficient in Microsoft Word
  • Additional Programs—SchoolDude Work Order Program
  • Ability to occasionally lift/carry 50lbs or more
  • Good attitude


  • Drive motorized vehicle
  • Work around machines
  • Work above floor level
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, gases
  • Exposure to marked changes in temperature
  • Work outdoors in varying weather
  • Repetitive foot movement to operate foot controls
  • Repetitive hand movements (firm grasp, fine manipulation, grasp and pull)
  • Clean, well-groomed appearance

* Lack of experience compensated by high mechanical aptitude or additional education or certification is acceptable.


  • Trade school experience
  • Building repair experience
  • Licensing in area of expertise encouraged

Required Education: High School Grad or GED
Required Experience: One to two years related experience
