First-year Experience Graduate Assistant (GA)

POSITION SUMMARY: Work in conjunction with the staff of the First-year Experience Department to promote student success through the various events and classes provided to students and faculty, and staff. 12-month Academic GA Position.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide support in the various resources (ex. Summer Orientation, Welcome Week, First-year Seminars, Student Support)
  • Find necessary sources (ex. research articles) for the Academic Resource Center staff so that the staff can increase their scholarly endeavors
  • Assist patrons seeking help and direction particularly in the main office
  • Increase awareness among faculty, staff, students, prospective students, etc.
  • Engage prospective students through recruiting efforts
  • Conduct tours of the Academic Resource Center to visitors and First-year classes
  • Represent the Academic Resource Center during College Up Close and Preview Days
  • Actively promote the Academic Resource Center to students, faculty, staff, and parents
  • Provide supervision in the Alumni Building
  • Complete any other tasks assigned by the First-year Experience staff

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Christ-like character demonstrated by a desire to serve others, a teachable spirit, and a strong work ethic.
  • Effective working skills demonstrated by good communication skills, good organizational skills, the ability to handle routine clerical duties, a willingness to learn new skills, self-motivation, and initiative.
  • Effective people skills demonstrated by friendliness, physical and emotional energy, an attitude of servant-leadership, and a spirit of helpfulness.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
