Financial Aid Counselor

Position Summary: Responsible to counsel and advise students in seeking the most effectual student aid available while assisting with key office functions and processing student financial aid.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver a first class customer service experience by possessing a working knowledge of federal, institutional, and state financial aid programs and providing financial aid counseling to students and parents by phone, over email, or in-person.
  • Provide timely financial aid information to students by notifying students (online or in-person) regarding their federal and institutional aid eligibility in collaboration with the Assistant Director.
  • Ensure accurate delivery of financial aid to student accounts by assisting with key office functions that are critical to the accuracy of financial aid's management system.
  • Maintain compliance with all current regulations by participating in regular training and assisting in key office functions required by federal deadlines with disbursement of federal Title IV funds.
  • Maintain established student aid programs by assisting the Assistant Director with the processing of federal aid programs and BJU's endowed aid.
  • Foster financial stewardship among students by providing students options for their financial responsibilities to the University and resources to manage their finances after college.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Federal Aid process preferred 
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Understand computer operating systems and desktop applications
  • Professional in appearance and presentation
  • Effective in oral and written communication

Required Education: Bachelor's degree
Required Experience: 1-2 years
