Dean, School of Fine Arts and Communication

Position Summary: Serve as the School of Fine Arts and Communication's chief executive officer, create vision and direction for the School, represent the School to external and internal constituents, lead faculty members, students, and programs within the School, provide student instruction from a Christian worldview for various graduate and undergraduate courses, and participate in BJU's leadership structures.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Articulate the value of fine arts and communication from a biblical and philosophical perspective.
  • Preside over all School of Fine Arts and Communication meetings
  • Serve as a member of Deans Council, Curriculum Committee, and other academic committees as needed
  • Participate in Administrative Conference
  • Participate in the identification and selection of prospective faculty for the School of Fine Arts and Communication
  • Participate actively in student recruitment.
  • Raise funds for the School of Fine Arts and Communication.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes in academic programs and course content to Curriculum Committee for review and approval and integrate approved changes
  • Develop and execute budget for academic programs
  • Participate in appropriate professional organizations
  • Collaborate with the Artistic Director to provide philosophical direction and deliver BJU's cultural program
  • Communicate the religious beliefs of BJU to students and student affiliates
  • Answer questions concerning faith, doctrine and creed of BJU to constituents, students, or those inquiring about BJU

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Broad knowledge of the arts from a Christian worldview
  • Ability to guide teams of faculty and staff
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Organizational skills
  • Strong teaching and classroom management skills
  • Ability to integrate biblical principles into the subject matter
  • Ability to serve as liaison to various external arts organizations
  • Exemplifies a biblical role model for students and colleagues
  • PhD - Terminal degree in area of teaching preferred

Required Education: PhD, terminal degree preferred
Required Experience: Five or more years related experience
