Undergraduate and Graduate Communication Studies Faculty

POSITION SUMMARY:  Join the Communication Studies department by providing student instruction from a Christian worldview for undergraduate and graduate courses in communication. In addition to teaching core courses such as Fundamentals of Speech and Oral Communication for the Professions, you may also be asked to teach courses in research methodology, strategic communication, organizational communication, interpersonal communication, and communication theory. You’ll have opportunities to make an impact by participating in advising, directing graduate theses, developing curriculum, and/or mentoring student-led organizations as well as service opportunities within the department, division, or school.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Teach assigned courses (including class preparation, grading, and other related teaching activities)
  • Maintain course syllabi and post it on the intranet for each class
  • Maintain thorough and current faculty portfolio
  • May serve as student advisor
  • Participate in divisional/departmental meetings and activities (including curriculum development, serving on committees, advising core curricula organizations)
  • Engage in professional development activities
  • Participate in University service activities
  • Attend required meetings (including chapel, faculty/staff meetings, and convocations)
  • Continuously monitor research and trends to make recommendations concerning program and course updates
  • Support activities related to the academic school, division, and/or department
  • Maintain regular posted office hours to be available to students
  • Communicates the religious beliefs of BJU to students and student affiliates
  • Answers questions concerning faith, doctrine and creed of BJU to constituents, students, or those inquiring about BJU

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • PhD degree or ABD in Strategic Communication/Communication or similar degree
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills in the classroom and interpersonally with students

Required Education: PhD preferred
Required Experience: 3-4 years related experience
