Position Summary: Purchases merchandise for resale in the Bruins Shop.


  • Research and select merchandise for resale.
  • Choose appropriate items within the context of BJU's standards and mission.
  • Communicate with vendors to guarantee best product and price for our customer.
  • Work with the vendor to resolve purchase order disputes and discrepancies to orders.
  • Maintain adequate inventory within the context of just-in-time delivery.
  • Stock and maintain merchandise on sales floor in an organized and aesthetically pleasing manner.
  • Understand and coordinate product with other areas in the store including, but not limited to the website, mail orders, special orders and advertising.
  • Oversee marketing and sales promotional materials and signage for the Bruins Shop.
  • Responsible for the regalia distribution process.
  • Knowledge of opening and closing procedures in order to be acting manager during extra business hours as needed (before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m.).
  • Assist in other areas as needed.


  • Basic knowledge of mathematical principles to maintain proper inventory counts and to handle sales transactions.
  • Ability to use computer applications to enter and retrieve data, access information, and perform various functions.
  • Understanding of consumer trends related to assigned buying area.
  • One year of retail experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends and overtime during peak periods.
  • Ability to work as a team player and cross-train with co-workers.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and establish priorities.
  • Ability to analyze data and problem solve.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment.
  • Detail oriented.

Required Education: High School Graduate or GED
Required Experience: One to two years related experience
