Press Business Office Data Analyst

Position Summary: Do you love working with details and analyzing data? Do you want to use these skills to help provide Christian educational materials from a biblical worldview for students around the world? As a Data Analyst with our Press Business Office Team, you would work with many departments within BJU Press to meet their data needs, including doing special projects and performing administrative tasks. There will be opportunities for cross-training.  We are a team of 17 people who enjoy their work, serving BJU Press in all business functions.

Position Overview:

  • Designing databases in Access to produce reports which are necessary for information and decision-making
  • Analyzing daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly sales transactions and preparing reports and month-end reports for BJU Press departments
  • Assisting with administrative tasks and special projects for the Press Business Office and supporting other departments at BJU Press

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Using SQL and Visual Basic within Access to create databases which produce reports and information used to help with decision-making
  • Using SQL and Visual Basic to automate the running of Access databases on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis
  • Analyzing data produced by running queries and presenting the results in a format easily understood by the requestor of the data by using charts and PowerPoint
  • Using pivot tables and other methods of data manipulation within Excel and Access to help with analyzing data
  • Building Access databases which can be used as tools by other BJU Press departments to help increase their accuracy and efficiency
  • Maintaining Access databases by fixing issues as they arise, troubleshooting and solving problems
  • Tracking payments from outside companies and organizations BJU Press has relationships with such as Amazon (Kindle)
  • Maintaining the Author Royalty database (which produces statements and letters) by adding new authors and books, royalty payments received, and updating the process when needed
  • Producing data to be used for monthly accounting entries by running queries
  • Continually updating Access databases with product changes using working knowledge of BJU Press products
  • Having a working knowledge of the Vertex Tax Program in order to be able to update our platform with special tax rules
  • Processing Mailing Lists to be sent to the Print Shop for various BJU Press mailings
  • Reconciling taxes paid through UPS Canada
  • Keeping track of vehicles leased to the Sales Team and billing for these on a monthly basis
  • Sending the Sales Team new tags and registrations for their leased vehicles
  • Receiving royalty payments and distributing to other companies as needed
  • Assisting with correspondence as needed
  • Completing credit applications and tax exemption forms as needed
  • Working with new systems and across departments as we implement new tools and programs

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to analyze data and communicate the results in reports
  • High level of computer knowledge
  • The ability to troubleshoot and solve problems
  • The knowledge of SQL and Visual Basic programming languages
  • Math/accounting skills with accuracy
  • Detail oriented
  • Good grammar skills
  • Ability to take initiative and to work independently

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience: One to two years related experience
