Accounting Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: Day-to-day accounting operations including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Sales/Use Tax for BJU Press Business Office.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performing of accounting functions of the BJU Press Business Office
  • Learning and working with new software and system implementations
  • Ability to assist with sales/use tax calculations and filing of tax returns for all states
  • Staying current with tax laws in order to keep BJU Press compliant
  • Maintaining tax email box/responding to customer tax inquiries
  • Updating customer tax certificates
  • Handling the monthly tax certificate update reminder emails
  • Resolving sales/use tax assessments and other tax issues including preparing for and working with auditors
  • Acting as liaison between BJU Press and state sales tax departments
  • Overseeing and assisting in filing of annual reports with Secretaries of State and filing business licenses
  • Assisting with accounts payable functions; entering invoices and selecting for payment
  • Assisting with and reviewing costing and balance sheet accounts
  • Reconciling monthly bank card statements and processing for payment
  • Communicating effectively with internal departments, vendors, and customers
  • Assisting with accounts receivable functions; including processing all types of payments on account.
  • Assisting with accounts receivable various problems that come up in D365

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Ability to act with propriety and maintain confidentiality of business information
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time
  • Ability to build relationships with other BJU Press departments
  • Good computer skills, proficiency in accounting software, and ability to learn new software programs
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal departments and external customers/vendors
  • Accuracy with numbers and details
  • Experience with creating financial statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and with month-end/year-end closing processes
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finances, or business administration is preferred, but not required

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Microsoft Office
  • Vertex - Sales tax software and Microsoft Dynamics - Business Financial; D365 AR and AP functions
