Women's Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY: Provide support, encouragement, and Biblical counsel to women students facing difficult situations, maintain knowledge of current counseling trends and issues and provide counseling resources for both students and faculty/staff.  


  • Counsel and advise women students, especially those at high risk, both on a one-time and on-going basis
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality
  • Lead the response to crisis situations that arise in the women’s residence halls
  • Provide crisis intervention and emotional support
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed
  • Maintain a high priority for approachability and availability to students 
  • Serve as women’s representative for students desiring help with Title IX complaints
  • Develop women’s residence hall mentoring staff in weekly meetings and assist them individually as specific questions arise
  • Develop accessible and vital counseling resources for women
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant legal matters


  • Thorough understanding of and support of BJU’s mission
  • Individual who lives an example of an obedient and joyful walk with God 
  • Proven ability to make wise decisions in difficult situations
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle stressful situations with sound judgment calls
  • Demonstrated ability to give Biblical counsel
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and compassionately
  • Ability to relate well interpersonally and develop rapport with students
  • Demonstrated ability to be both approachable and available to students 
  • Proven conflict resolution skills
  • Solid understanding of college environment and regulations (e.g., Title IX)
  • Continuing professional development in the field of counseling

Required Education: Master's degree in counseling
Required Experience: Five or more years related experience
