Position Summary: The Art & Design Senior Manager oversees the creation or obtaining of all art and design materials for BJU Press educational products, directly overseeing the Design and Art Managers.


  • Supervise in-house Artists/Art Department and Designers/Design Department.
  • Work with Art Manager and Design Manager to maintain expected art and design standards for the company.
  • Meet regularly with Art Manager and Design Manager (weekly is recommended).
  • Help Design Manager and Art Manager to grow in their managerial skills. Support them as leaders.
  • Determine which projects and/or pieces of projects will have art and/or design done in-house. Endeavor to keep Artists and Designers appropriately busy--neither overwhelmed nor underutilized.
  • Manage the on-time completion of key department deliverables
  • Determine which projects and/or pieces of projects will need to have art and/or design outsourced. Make such decisions in ample time to get outsourced work completed when needed. Maintain positive, professional communication with outsourcers. Make sure payments are processed on time.
  • Lead Art and Design Department meetings as needed (weekly is suggested). Work to engender positive department morale.
  • As able, keep up with current educational art and design techniques and trends.
  • Encourage professional development of in-house Artists and Designers (as well as their Managers) through information and education.

  • Commitment to maintaining agreed-upon production schedules.
  • Ability to work with other departments (Writers, Operations, Permissions, Page Layout, Biblical Worldview, Academic Oversight, Editorial, Administration, etc.) in a positive, mutually beneficial way.
  • "Soft" skills, aka "people" skills.
  • Ability to lead.
  • Willingness to listen to and be advised by Art Manager and Design Manager regarding art and design issues.
  • Ability to maintain production schedules and to lead department in doing so as well.

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience: Three to four years related experience preferred
