Switchboard Operator II (Student)

POSITION SUMMARY: Switchboard operators direct incoming calls to University extensions as well assist the University family and visitors with information. In addition they train new student operators.

Applicants would need to start during the semester and be available to work during the summer.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be enrolled as a student at Bob Jones University
  • Answer calls coming into the UniversitY
  • Assist callers to find the person or department they are seeking
  • Connect callers to the person or department they request
  • Direct callers to resources that can answer their questions or provide information
  • Notify University Receptionist of updates that need to be made to the manual and training material
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be enrolled as a student at Bob Jones University
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple calls at once
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions
  • Willingness to learn and aptitude for new technology
  • Awareness of events on campus
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to memorize telephone extensions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Previous telephone experience helpful
  • Must (occasionally) lift/carry up to 20 lbs. and /or push/pull  up to 25 lbs.
