IT Academic Technology Specialist

Position Summary: We're seeking an individual who loves to learn creative new technologies and then teach those technologies to others. This individual will advise and assist faculty with the integration of new technology in the classroom and then teaching/guiding students through a human centered design process. Other responsibilities include the creation and oversight of community outreach events for Tech Resources.

Along with the rest of the Tech Resources team, this individual will support classroom technology, assist faculty with support of their university issued technology and the support of student personal computers. On occasion, design marketing materials as needed.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Learn and teach new technologies
  • Market new technologies to teachers and support the integration of the technology
  • Support student use of the creative technologies
  • Assists faculty and students with the use of the Learning Management System and related applications
  • Coordinates the maintenance and loan of technological equipment
  • Facilitates the use of university-owned classroom presentation technology as required
  • Coordinates the use and maintenance of technology classrooms
  • Provides limited one-on-one user training for faculty and students when help is requested
  • Plans and coordinates seminars and workshops on the use of technologies
  • Researches current trends in educational technology and presents recommendations as requested
  • Researches related technology issues and offers resolutions based on findings
  • Maintains documentation on problems and solutions
  • Provides tier one support for printers and faculty technology in the Alumni building
  • Provides consistent communication with customers regarding their requests
  • Assists patrons with connecting personal devices to the the BJU network and its services
  • Assists with the troubleshooting and basic repair of personal computing devices
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Some experience in technical computer support
  • Understanding and ability to train students in the use of human centered design
  • Ability to effectively interface with users and discuss issues
  • Above average written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Desire to teach others about the technology field
  • Strong commitment to customer satisfaction

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience: One to two years related experience
