IT Academic Technology Specialist

Position Summary: Provides information technology support for faculty and students, helping them understand and resolve issues related to university-provided software and equipment and assisting them in achieving their instructional goals through the use of technology; provides and oversees support for personal devices connected to the BJU network; assists with the maintenance and loan of equipment

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assists faculty with the use of integrated learning platforms and other instructional applications and troubleshoots issues which cannot be resolved by the Help Desk
  • Creates user documentation for faculty and students as needed
  • Assists users with connecting personal devices to the BJU network and services
  • Provides users with information and assistance related to software and web services available through BJU
  • Assists students and faculty with technical issues in computer classrooms
  • Trains student workers to assist users with personally-owned devices and faculty laptops
  • Assists with the scheduling and supervision of student workers as required for monitoring labs and providing technical assistance
  • Facilitates the use of classroom presentation technology and loaner equipment as required.
  • Researches computer issues and offers resolutions based on findings
  • Maintains documentation about problems and solutions
  • Ensures procedures are consistently followed.
  • Responds quickly and competently to customer requests
  • Provides consistent communication with customers regarding their requests
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Some experience in technical computer support
  • Ability to effectively interface with users and discuss issues
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office and current educational software
  • Advanced troubleshooting capabilities
  • Above average written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Desire to teach others about the technology field
  • Strong commitment to customer satisfaction

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience: One to two years related experience
