BJA Band Director

Supervise the BJA band program, direct the assigned BJA bands, teach sectionals and private lessons as appropriate, advise students and parents concerning fine arts matters, and perform service duties as needed within the school.


  • In cooperation with the BJA, elementary, and secondary administrations develop and oversee the BJA band program including
    • training and directing the assigned bands
    • selection of music works and exercises in accordance to the school's philosophy of music
    • exemplifying a Christlike model for students, colleagues, and parents
    • at appropriate times, teaching the students a biblical philosophy of music
    • working with the administrations to schedule concerts, rehearsals, and technical rehearsals
    • the coordination with students and instrumental instructors to schedule private lessons
    • participation in appropriate competitions, chapels, and ministry opportunities at school and in the community
    • the oversight of transportation needs (vehicles and drivers) in conjunction with the BJU, Inc policies/procedures
    • the care and upkeep of the band room, equipment, and school instruments
    • other activities typically conducted by an band director
  • Maintain a strong band program
  • Support activities related to the school
  • Maintain student academic grades and reports
  • Attend chapel and Academy faculty meetings


  • Possess exceptional knowledge and proficiency of band instruments
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills in the classroom and with students
  • Demonstrate strong organizational abilities in fine arts management and in teaching
  • Ability to communicate a biblical worldview and integrate biblical principles into subject matter
  • Must be comfortable in a digital environment and able to learn the school management system
  • Will need to apply for a teaching certificate from the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree preferred
Required Experience: Three to four years related experience
