Distribution Center Packer/Loader (Student)

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Packer/Offloader scans, packs and seals all boxes coming through the picking line, loads the UPS trailer, prepares palletized orders for LTL shipments and delivery orders and assists at the customer pick-up window when needed.

HOURS REQUIRED: Minimum of 10 hours per week. All work is done between 8am and 5pm Monday-Friday.  No evenings or weekends.  BLOCKS OF TWO HOURS are needed (preferably in the afternoon).  They do NOT need to be the same two hours each day.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Scans all boxes for packing slip insertion
  • Packs all boxes with adequate packing material to prevent damage
  • Sends boxes through auto-tape machine
  • Frequently checks tape-machine and inclines for box jams
  • Loads UPS parcel trailer according to established procedures
  • Organizes and prepares pallet shipments for pickup by LTL carriers
  • Organizes boxes for customer pick-up and campus delivery
  • Assists customers at pick-up window
  • Checks “reject” boxes
  • Keeps packing/shipping areas neat, clean and safe
  • Assists the Shipping Supervisor in other tasks as directed

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must be enrolled as a student at Bob Jones University
  • Basic computer skills
  • Attention to detail/good awareness of surroundings
  • Good dexterity and hand/eye coordination
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs repeatedly (when loading)
  • Ability to stay focused on a repetitive task
  • Ability to operate an electric pallet jack and pallet wrapper (will train)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • College students
  • Prior work experience preferred, but not required
