POSITION SUMMARY:  He/she is responsible for a portfolio of donors and prospects to raise funds for BJU. He/she will solicit immediate and long-term support from a variety of donors and prospects, building and maintaining relationships with new and current donors.


  • Expected Travel is 50% of work load for local and out of town donor visits; prepares call reports and data reports in a timely manner
  • Supports ongoing development efforts using BJU's biblical fundraising model
  • Identifies, cultivates, and solicits philanthropic support by developing and maintaining relationships with a portfolio of assigned donors, Heritage Society members and prospects; manages special projects; carries out fundraising priorities 
  • Supports fundraising strategies and methods to ensure proper acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of donors; participates in developing campaign/marketing materials, case statements, and brochures; works in collaboration to prepare reports and prospect research materials
  • Participates in professional development organizations, and attends meetings and seminars to keep up-to-date on planned giving and fundraising practices, methods, trends and resources
  • Keeps up-to-date records, communications and reports
  • Provides information, recommendations and assistance to donors and prospective donors in setting up planned giving instruments and deferred gifts when appropriate and introduces them to the Heritage Society
  • Participates in special projects, development initiatives and goals set by the VP with other duties as assigned
  • Assists in planning and supporting events as necessary


  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills
  • Basic knowledge in working with planned giving instruments
  • Superior interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop high-quality relationships with a variety of constituencies, from a high powered executive to an elderly, lonely widow
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Excellence in initiative, creativity, time management and attention to detail
  • Energetic, team-oriented, enthusiastic and positive "can-do" attitude in a demanding environment
  • Understanding of Raiser’s Edge and/or Raiser’s Edge NXT is helpful

Required Education: Bachelor's degree
Required Experience: Three to four years related experience
