EM & CS Controls Technician

Position Summary: Responsible for the Installation and Maintenance of  Energy Management and Controls Systems on Campus.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Software
    • Utilizing the Johnson Controls software packages and given a sequence of operation be able to develop operating code for the FEC and DX controllers
    • Be willing to delve in and attempt integration of 3rd party devices to the Johnson Controls EM&CS network (ie.Modbus and Trane)
    • In conjunction with the electrical department,  provide support for the SCADA  system at the Central Plant (Automation Direct Modbus)
    • Work with the Johnson Controls and BJU IT representatives to maintain, resolve issues, enhance, and further develop the  Johnson Controls Network based systems (ie.NAEs, VMs, ADX, etc.)
  • Mechanical
    • Continually develop an understanding of the campus mechanical systems and operation to promote more consistent, economical operation and to provide a safe, healthy, comfortable environment for the customer.
    • Be able to identify (not necessarily repair) potential mechanical failures and communicate the need for repair to the service department.
    • Provide controls support to the mechanical service department during mechanical repairs 
  • Installation
    • Have a working knowledge of the electrical/electronic standards and NEC requirements for Building Automation and Monitoring systems & Class 2 wiring standards
    • Understand and utilize “best practices” when installing wire and wire pathways
    • Have skill sets for the installation of conduit pathways and support systems.
    • Have skill sets for the development of medium complexity EMCS monitoring & control panels and the electrical/electronic support systems
  • Maintenance
    • Be capable of calibrating monitoring/control devices – electronic  and pneumatic.
    • Be capable to identify software anomalies and repair or work with other sources to resolution.
  • Other
    • Continuous education – be continually reading and seek to understand and be educated regarding the always changing standards for control and monitoring of the campus electrical and mechanical systems.
    • Play an active part in the off hours monitoring and support for the EM&CS.
    • EM&CS – Energy Management and Control System
    • SCADA – Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working in a commercial or institutional environment preferred
  • Experience working with low voltage/control (fire alarm, security, HVAC) systems required
  • Minimum of 3 years field experience working as a licensed electrician or a minimum or 5 years of field experience as a licensed electrician is required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of SC state, federal, and local electrical codes and safety regulations relating to electrical installations
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams
  • Organizational skills
  • Professional in appearance and presentation
  • Effective in oral and written communication

Required Education: High School graduate or GED
Required Experience: Three to four years related experience
