IT Operations Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: As IT Operations Manager, you will work with the Information Technology department to oversee and perform network and server administration, including database administration and enterprise storage administration; supervise and coordinate activities of Operations team; confer with Application Development; direct and coordinate activities of security administration; and provide effective Network Infrastructure and Platform efficiencies, which serve the departments and businesses within the sphere of Bob Jones University and BJU Education Group.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and perform networking and server administration by maintaining email, Internet, e-commerce, and support applications
  • Notify development and administrator personnel if unable to locate and correct cause of processing error or failure
  • Revise operation schedules to adjust for delays or notify scheduling workers of need to adjust schedule
  • Review production, operating, and downtime records and reports
  • Recommend changes in programs, routines, and quality control standards to improve computer operating efficiency
  • Consult with supervisor about problems, such as equipment performance, output quality, and maintenance schedule
  • Effectively manage IT Operations by planning and developing policies and procedures for carrying out compute operations, enforcing company policies and procedures, and setting the example in action, word, and attitude
  • Plan and develop policies and procedures for carrying out computer operations
  • Consult with software and hardware vendors and other establishment workers to solve problems impeding computer processing
  • Meet with IT managers to determine impact of proposed changes in hardware or software on computer operations and service to users
  • Evaluate proposed IT projects to assess adequacy of existing hardware and software, and recommend purchase of equipment and possible software upgrades
  • Evaluate new software and hardware to determine usefulness and compatibility with existing software and hardware
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks
  • Develop assigned employees by mentoring them in technical, interpersonal, and leadership skills, educating and counseling them on company policies and procedures, working through their personnel issues and providing educational opportunities
  • Cooperate and coordinate with other company departments by meeting with peers/supervisors/co-workers to discuss progress of work and to determine the impact of proposed changes on computer operations and service to users
  • Other duties as assigned by senior management

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong technical knowledge of network, servers and operating systems
  • Strong technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards
  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development
  • Ability to coach performance in areas such as quality, customer service, job skills, efficiency and productivity
  • Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures
  • Strong understanding of project management principles
  • Capable of structuring and maintaining a productive team of skilled employees
  • Understanding of best business practices concepts
  • Strong verbal, written, and analytical skills
  • Ability to maintain favorable public relations
  • Understanding of Linux, Unix, and Windows operating systems
  • Understanding of relational DBMS systems (DB2, Informix, MySql, SqlServer, etc.)
  • Understanding of WebSphere Application and Commerce server
  • Understanding of DRP, Security and Enterprise storage administration
  • Understanding of application systems and development
  • Understanding of the University's goals and objectives

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience: Five or more years related experience
