Associate Dean for the Center for Distance Learning

POSITION SUMMARY:  Reporting to the Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives, the Associate Dean for the Center for Distance Learning (CDL) at Bob Jones University (BJU) is responsible for leading BJU’s Distance Education department, ensuring that BJU delivers high-quality and cutting-edge distance education and non-traditional programs. The Associate Dean will assist the Vice Provost in providing strategic leadership, leveraging significant expertise in educational technology, online pedagogy, and operational implementation of academic programs. She/he will be required to communicate BJU’s Center for Distance Learning's strategy and initiatives with internal and external audiences with varying levels of distance education expertise.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy

  • Define BJU’s Center for Distance Learning strategy and vision, in conjunction with Vice Provost and senior academic team.
  • Lead to exploration and adoption of innovative instruction and instructional technologies.
  • Seek out best practices from industry and other institutions for implementation at BJU.
  • Grow the number and offering of fully online degrees, certificates, dual-enrollment classes, and non-traditional programs.

Operations

  • Implement distance education programs, in conjunction with deans, assistant deans, and directors of academic units, using internal and external resources.
  • Lead in the research, development, and execution of emerging and innovative methods for course delivery and instructional technology.
  • Oversee distance education and non-traditional program’s curriculum development and instructional design.
  • Regularly assess the quality of distance education and non-traditional programs and implement strategies for improvement.
  • Oversee the creation of and adherence to the BJU’s Center for Distance Learning budget and ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Oversee quality of services provided to students and instructors in distance education and non-traditional programs.
  • Facilitate and oversee planning that will aid in maximizing enrollment growth and revenue generation as it relates to online learning.

Faculty Development/Management

  • Create and enforce the CDL's faculty policies.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of the CDL's faculty development/training program.
  • Facilitate team building and consensus.
  • Evaluate the performance of all direct reports in assigned area(s) of responsibility.

Communications

  • Communicate CDL's model of distance education to faculty, other BJU stakeholders, and external audiences, as appropriate.
  • Serve as liaison from the CDL to the BJU community at-large regarding distance learning programs and strategy.
  • Present information to internal and external customers about distance education at BJU.
  • Foster collaboration among instructional units and programs, work with faculty, staff, and administrators throughout BJU to achieve a shared vision for online course delivery and instructional technology.

Required Education: Terminal Degree Preferred
Required Experience: Five or more years related experience
